ICPAU Release the August 2018 Examinations The Press Release

On behalf of the Public Accountants Examinations Board, I welcome you to this function where we are releasing the August 2018 examinations results.

In a special way, we would like to welcome members of the press, for regularly covering our functions.  It is our prayer that you cover this function accurately for the benefit of professional accountancy education in Uganda.

The Institute conducts 3 examinations diets i.e. every June, August and December for the Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD), Certified Public Accountants (CPA), and Certified Tax Advisor (CTA).

Every August, the Institute conducts only the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examinations.

Therefore, this time we are releasing results for the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examinations only.  Every August the Institute conducts only the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) examinations at the Kampala centre.  I am assuming that you are aware that the Institute also conducts examinations for ATD and CTA every June and November.

This august examinations were conducted from Monday 20 to Saturday 25 August 2018 at Mandela National Stadium, Nambole.  A total of 3,748 candidates attempted the examinations.

AUGUST 2018 CPA(U) EXAMS

The number of candidates increased from 3,607 in August 2017 to 3,748 in August 2018.  This represents an increment of 3.8%

The average pass rate was 39.6% compared to 31.9% in August 2017.

In terms of gender, 48.8% of those who passed were female and 51.2% were male.

Additionally, 30.7% of those candidates who passed made it on their first attempt.  We congratulate them for their hard work.

In terms of age 42.9% were in the age bracket of 25-29 years, followed by 30-34 at 21%.  This implies these candidates are likely to complete the course when they are still young and will therefore have a long time to influence national economic policy.

107 candidates completed the CPA course compared to 97 in August 2017.

Of the 107 candidates, 48 were female and 59 were male.  The list of finalists is attached (see Appendix).

Cumulatively, 3,353 students have completed the CPA course. 

3.0   CLOSING REMARKS

On behalf of the Public Accountants Examinations Board, I congratulate those candidates who passed their various examinations papers, the top candidates in each paper and those who have completed CPA(U) course.  I also encourage those who have not made it this time to work harder and pass next time round.

I convey our sincere appreciation to the examiners, moderators, markers, security teams, invigilators, service providers and the Secretariat for their contributions to the success of the August 2108 examinations.
